Who qualifies for a NC concealed carry permit?

To apply for a North Carolina CCH permit, you must:

Be at least 21 years old
Be a U.S. citizen or legal permanent resident
Be a resident of North Carolina for at least 30 days
Pass a background check (no felony convictions or disqualifying mental health issues)

How do I apply for a permit after this class?

Take and pass our certified NC Concealed Carry Handgun class
Receive your certificate of completion
Schedule an appointment with the Sheriff's Office in your county
Submit: Your certificate, completed application, fingerprints, government-issued ID, payment (~$90 fee), DD-214 if military veteran
Wait for background processing (typically 4–12 weeks depending on your county)

What do I need to bring to the class?

The most important things are a good attitude and willingness to learn! You'll also need:

A pen or pencil for written portions
Eye and ear protection for the range
Weather-appropriate clothing (range is outdoors)
Be well-rested - it's a full 9-hour day!

Do I need to bring my own handgun and ammunition?

We strongly suggest bringing your own gun if you have one, but if you're new to firearms, you can rent one of ours for a $20 fee (All Inclusive add-on). You'll need at least 50 rounds of ammunition for the shooting qualification. Important: We DO NOT allow reloaded ammunition.

How long does it take to get my permit?

Permit processing times vary by county. Most applicants receive a response in 30 to 90 days, depending on volume and staffing. Your sheriff will notify you by mail once approved.

What must I do to pass the class?

You need to clear three requirements:

Pass the legal examination on use of deadly force, justified self-defense, and concealed carry statutes
Demonstrate firearm safety during range time
Show marksmanship proficiency (loading, firing, unloading, and clearing your handgun)

Can I bring my firearm into the classroom?

NO FIREARMS OR AMMUNITION is allowed in the classroom. All firearms training takes place on the outdoor range portion of the course.
